True Life: Inside a Strip Club December 1, 2009

Okay, I have to admit I always thought that strip clubs are very demeaning to a woman’s character. In my opinion, and I do not want to offend anyone, there is nothing classy about paying a women to take her clothes off while they are stared at and judged. I think strip clubs are completely inappropriate. I believe they just make woman look bad and trashy. I understand that this may be the only thing some women know, and they have to take this job to provide for themselves and their family, and trust me, i do respect that. We all know that Thanksgiving Eve is a very popular night for people to go out and party. 12 of my MALE friends decided they were going to go to a strip club for their entertainment. As soon as i heard this I figured this could be a great opportunity for my next blog! I decided to go along with them, and i invited one of my girl friends who just so happens to be pregnant. All 14 of us took a trip to a strip club near my home in upstate NY. For confidentiality purposes, i do not want to name the strip club or any one the dancers I met that evening.

I have to say I was quite nervous and really did not know what to expect. I entered, none of us were asked for our IDs and we took our seats. The girls were unsure of what to do for or with other women in the strip club so they asked my friend and I. I explained to the first stripper who could not have been over 20, with bleach blonde hair, weighing a max of 105 pounds that I was here for educational purposes. I was honestly surprised how much she shared with me. This one particular stripper told me that this was not something she wanted to do, however she had one too many DWI s and this is the only type of employment she could find.  Another stripper who was in her mid 30′s was addicted to heroin which she admitted to me.This made me really sad to hear about. People think these strippers are such bad people, when they are only people trying to make a living.

The media portrays strip clubs as being this glamorous places where these gorgeous women will give you ten minutes of their time, when in actuality these women are upset, angry, or addicted to numerous substances as I saw on Wednesday. I was shocked to see that one of the strippers brings her 19 year old boyfriend with her every night when she performs! I spoke to him as well, and he said he throws money up for her every weekend and does not mind that his girlfriends strips, as long as she comes home with him every night.

It is sad that we hear of young girls thinking about this life as a means of quick, and good money. I do not think they understand exactly how a stripper feels. When they go home at night, i am certain they are not satisfied with how their nights go.

I searched the internet looking for stories in which strippers shared their life stories, but i really could not find any, i guess it was enough to see in real life!

The Tyra show hosted by Tyra Banks never seizes to amaze me. The stuff they come up with is actually pretty fascinating. This past Monday they did a special on the crazy diets people will participate in just to loose a few pounds. I could not believe my eyes when people admitted to using tapeworms which can be deadly to loose weight!Apparently you can eat a parasite in order to eat whatever foods you like. The tapeworm actually puts protein into a person’s intestinal tract.  This gives you a less efficient digestive system which means you can consume more calories. It is estimated that people infected with one tapeworm can loose up to two pounds a week. This is so gross to me!

The website has the craziest diets in history. I was thoroughly disgusted with the things people will go through to be thin. This site talks about the cotton ball diet, who knew!? Apparently you can eat cotton balls! The cotton is low in calories but extremely filing. I could not believe my eyes when i saw there was a diet where people sedated themselves so they wouldn’t eat!

Would these diets really exist if people didn’t feel pressured by the media and their favorite celebs to fit into those smaller sizes? I really believe that a large population of individuals, mostly women will listen to a great deal of what they are told. If someone tells them eating a gigantic worm will make them look like Paris Hilton, they may bne intersted in trying it.

Breast Implants Are The New Fashion Accessory November 11, 2009

 

 

It seems as though today the new fashion accessory is a pair of implants. Unfortunately, as a society we are at the point where a purse or a pair of stilettos no longer is enough. Parents are actually buying their daughters plastic surgery for events such as birthdays, graduations, and holidays. It amazes me. ABC news had a special on this teen girl names Lulu. Lulu wanted breast implants for her high school graduation, and her parents did in fact come through! In this interview with ABC Lulu’s mother stated that it was an expensive graduation present, however you cannot put a price on your child’s happiness. To me this is just disturbing. Aren’t parents supposed to tell their daughters that in a world where the media tries to brainwash us with plastic surgery and beauty that we should be ourselves? Parents should be able to help their children through times of low self esteem and discomfort in a positive way. I do not believe making your child “plastic” is teaching them the right thing. Lulu for example was a young girl was so influenced by society she became so fascinated with the idea of plastic surgery.

What Happened to the Spook of Halloween? October 23, 2009

hmmm….That’s not what I picture a Ghost Buster looking like

Is it just me or are the Halloween costumes getting more and more provocative each year? I recently went to a Halloween Store to get my fake tattoos and black fake teeth to finish up the final touches on my home-made hillbilly Halloween costume, when i found myself in the isle from hell. I could not get over these Halloween costumes!!!!! The female costumes are nothing but a thin piece of fabric. I knew i would write about this for my blog so i opened up a few of the costumes to see what they were like. To be honest with you, i do not think half of them would even fit over me. Most of them closed with one simple zipper. Advertisements for these costumes are everywhere! All over the Halloween store were posters of these sexy costumes. Not one single “scary” costume was being hyped up. I was really taken back. The  I thought okay, fine these are adults i suppose they can wear whatever they want even if they will be exposed to random people all night wearing barely nothing. So….just for fun i decided to look in the teen’s section. Oh my goodness……..they were not appropriate for teens, that’s for sure! What is the media teaching this kids about how they should look and dress? On Halloween a great deal of them will be running around looking like street walkers! I have been watching MTV recently and I have determined that Hip-Hop these days is completing degrading to women! From the cruel and harsh lyrics to the half naked girls in the music videos which have taken over our television screens. I really feel as though I cannot turn on music videos anymore without seeing female body parts! A combination of Hip-Hop and sex makes millions for the media industry. In the past, Hip-Hop was all about the music, the Djs, the break dancing, and a little graffiti. Now, its turned into this industry filled with fashion, language, clubs, bars, alcohol and drugs, and sex.

Most of the Hip Hop videos we see today have half naked girls dancing around men and idolizing them. The men in these videos are fully clothed, while the women appear as worthless objects! Unfortunately, Hip Hop today makes being a pimp, playing women, and disrespecting them seem okay.

I mean just listen to the lyrics, these men talk about buying these women alcohol and sleeping with them. They call them bitches and hoes, and to me, this language is really disturbing. If these men are sitting here and calling women these names, what are the viewers of these videos supposed to think? Young people watch these videos daily.

Okay class, prepare yourself for these lyrics. The following lyrics are extremely vulgar and this song titled “Make it Rain” by Fat Joe hit number one on the charts not too long ago.

As you can see in this video there are tons of half naked women idolizing this fully clothes rapper. Lil Wayne is wearing a nice suit, while these women are flaunting everything they have.

Our Job is to Please Men- I THINK NOT!!! October 13, 2009

Admit it ladies, we have at all in some point of our lives picked up a book, opened up a magazine, or taken a silly quiz to find out how we can please the men of our dreams. I know I am guilty. Why should women change who they are to keep their men? It just does not seem right. We should want, and deserve men who love us for us. Why should we parade around in little French Maid outfits agreeing with everything our significant other wants to do, while avoiding our own feelings and morals? I’m sorry, but it is not a man’s world, women have just as much right to be happy. My best friend recently told me about a book she just read titled “Why Men Love Bitches.” For the purpose of this class, i purchased and read the book. This book is hundreds of pages on how to get your man to love you and listen to you at all times. It is all a game! The book recommends distances yourself from men, and appearing as helpless at time. The book states that we should act terrified of a tiny little spider to appear feminine and fragile in our man’s eyes. To me, this is ridiculous! Right next to this book in Barnes and Noble was the sequel, “Why Men Marry Bitches.” This book is the next step to getting your man to marry you. Although this books are hilarious, and apparently bring you from doormat to dream girl, they seem a bit ridiculous to me. Not to fear ladies everywhere, these books are in 30 different languages so women of all cultures can cater to their men! Do not get me wrong, i am all for making my man feel special, but I am not about to lower myself to do so. Below is a link to the official website:

Inner Beauty Not Enough? October 2, 2009

Ellen DeGeneres advertises inner beauty is not as important as outer beauty!

As I was getting ready for work this morning I saw a commercial that really shocked me. What really shocked me was who the spokesperson for the add was! To my surprise, Ellen DeGeneres was advertising that “Inner beauty is important, but not as important as outer beauty.” This short Cover Girl commercial says a lot in a few words. The commercial was designed to advertise Cover Girl’s new product called Simply Ageless. This product is a foundation that promises to cover your flaws and make you look years younger. Do not get me wrong, I love makeup, but i am just shocked by the slogan which such a reputable company chose to use. Saying that inner beauty is not as important as how you look is just wrong. So now you can only be a good person if you’re beautiful being wrinkle and flaw free? I believe ads should really watch their wording and think about the message they are trying to send out. You never know who may take their wording to heart.Although this particular product is not something which would be used by teens girls, teen girls do watch television and are bound to see it. With such a popular company saying such things, what are girls supposed to think?

Lindsay Lohan’s eating disorder September 25, 2009

We all know that teens follow their favorite celebrities very closely. These women in Hollywood are role models to people all over the world, but at times I wonder what are they really showing. I would think that these females would want people to view them as classy, successful idols for young girls in the world. If i had children today I honestly would be very reluctant about allowing them to watch television, and purchase some of this music which is out today. Being a young lady in society today is very difficult, due to the constant pressures regarding image which are always present. Everyone has at least heard of the famous singer, songwriter, and actress Lindsay Lohan. You can see her in numerous ads and magazines half naked, about 75 pounds.

Lindsay Lohan recently admitted to her struggle with bulimia. She become noticeably thinner, to the point where she looked extremely ill and unhealthy. When celebrities are doing things such as this to make themselves thinner, what do they expect their younger fans to do? I’m sorry, but being overly thin and unhealthy does not seem appealing to me. What happened to the old days when an average shape was attractive? In her interview with MTV she admitted that she was extremely early, and was constantly hearing that she could potentially die if she did not start eating. She is currently in the process of re-gaining the weight she lost, and she claims she wants to be healthy again. Despite her sudden change of heart regarding her illness, she still managed to pose nude for Vanity Fair.

Aside from the eating disorder Lindsay has been seen using alcohol and drugs, and driving under the influence. She has admitted that she has done wrong, and apologizes to her fans for her actions. She stated that sometimes you have to hot rock bottom before you realize you need a change.
